Honors Program Requirements

• Students admitted into the Honors Program must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25

• They are also required to complete 12-25 hours of Honors credit depending on the level of honors

• Honors students are strongly encouraged to participate in two acts of community service each semester.

Honors students will abide by the Code of Student Conduct as set forth in the APSU Student Handbook. Infractions against the Code of Student Conduct may result in disciplinary action, up to and including removal from the Honors Program.

What Qualifies an Honors Student?

• Students admitted into the Honors Program must have a 3.5 unweighted high-school GPA or a minimum 24 on the ACT.

• They also must complete the Honors Program Application.

Transfer Students:

Transfer students must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA from their prior institution. Any prior Honors credit may be applied as substitutions for Honors courses at APSU. Transfer students will be required to complete the courses appropriate to their level of achievement. For example, a student who comes in as a junior will be required to complete at least 12 hours of Honors coursework. High-achieving students who transfer to Austin Peay can apply to the Honors Program by contacting the Director of the Honors Program at honors@apsu.edu.

Community Service

The Honors Program strongly encourages a commitment to community service, fostering a sense of civic responsibility and engagement among its members. Each student enrolled in the program is encouraged to complete two acts of community service each semester. 

Opportunities for community service are abundant within the Honors Program and the President's Emerging Leaders Program (PELP). Students can participate in REAL Acts of Service, a collection of impactful community service initiatives, as well as various student-led events geared towards giving back to the local community.

Through these community service experiences, the Honors Program aims to nurture well-rounded individuals who not only excel academically but also actively contribute to the betterment of society through meaningful engagement and service.

Honors Passport

At the start of each academic year, every Honors student can receive their own passport, which serves as a personalized journey through the diverse and enriching opportunities available within the program. Throughout the year, each student should try to complete their passport by attending a minimum of ten distinct events, creating a vibrant mosaic of experiences, from sports and arts to cultural explorations.  While students are strongly encouraged to use the passport, participation in this is not required.  

What sets the Honors Passport apart is the personalized touch it adds to the experience. Instead of simply receiving stamps, students are encouraged to immerse themselves fully in each event. After attending an event, students take a few moments to reflect and write a brief journal entry. These entries capture the essence of the event, sharing insights into what they learned, how they were inspired, and what moments they enjoyed the most. 

Of the ten events completed over the academic year, students should try to attend four events sponsored by the Honors Program and/or The President's Emerging Leaders Program (PELP). 

The Honors Passport is more than a record-keeping tool; it's a symbol of your journey through a multitude of experiences that will shape your perspective, broaden your horizons, and enrich your time in the Honors Program.
